For many teachers, we appreciate there is a genuine concern with mapping to curriculum. With regard to STEM, we often get asked how Design Thinking and authentic problem solving can be mapped to the curriculum, in other words, how can such approaches be used to cover curriculum content. So, to answer such questions mapping ideas to Maths and Science curriculum courtesy of the expertise of John Rowe and Sally Nadebaum have been provided.
These mapping documents show that Design Thinking can be used alongside curriculum ‘teachable moments’ particularly in the Empathy stage before diversification of ideas and solutions occurs. Empathy requires truly understanding a problem, therefore elements of the Maths and Science curriculum often lend themselves well to this stage. See for yourself below.
